Matthew A. Crane

Matthew A. Crane is a medical student at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is a visiting scholar at the USC Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics.

Crane’s research interests focus on health policy and epidemiology, working at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in the Department of Health Policy and Management as well as with the Drug Access and Affordability Initiative.

He previously served on the Los Angeles City Health Commission, working on issues of homelessness and public health. He has worked on projects for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) and the World Health Organization, serving as academic support staff to the WHO SAGE Working Group on Covid-19 vaccines.

Crane’s research has been published in leading policy and clinical journals including Health Affairs, JAMA, and Clinical Infectious Diseases. His opinion pieces have been published in major news outlets such as the Washington Post, Sacramento Bee, and the San Diego Union-Tribune.

He received his B.S. summa cum laude in Human Biology from USC and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. While at USC, Crane was elected head of Undergraduate Student Government Senate. On graduation, he was awarded the Milo Don Appleman Award from the USC Department of Biological Sciences, recognizing the most outstanding graduating senior entering the clinical sciences.
