Hossein Pourmand, DPPD, MBA's Bio
Hossein Pourmand joined the University of Southern California (USC) in April 2012 and is currently Assistant Vice President, Advancement, Research Initiatives. He was previously Senior Executive Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, a position he held until July 2022. In this capacity, he worked with USC’s executive and academic leadership and corporate and foundation relations professionals to identify and execute successful partnership and engagement strategies with leading organizations. Previously, he was Executive Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations at USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering.
Before joining USC Viterbi in February 2014, Hossein was Assistant Director for Technology Commercialization at the USC Stevens Center for Innovations. In that capacity, Hossein led a team of technology licensing professionals responsible for developing and implementing Intellectual Property and commercialization strategies through licensing and the formation of start-ups.
Before joining USC in 2012, Hossein was a high technology entrepreneur and investment banker. He was involved with several Southern California-based start-up companies in various capacities, including strategic planning, Venture Capital financing, and business development.
Hossein started his career in the oil and gas industry with Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO). Beginning as a process engineer in ARCO’s Los Angeles Refinery, Hossein progressed through a series of assignments in Refinery Operations, Fuels Marketing, Finance, Strategic Planning, and Investor Relations. In 1997, Hossein was transferred to London as a Managing Director of International Business Development, leading a multi-disciplinary team of professionals for new upstream and exploration opportunities in the Middle East and North Africa.
Hossein received his Doctorate in Policy, Planning and Development (DPPD) from the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy in 2024. His research focuses on Health Policy related to the early and timely detection and diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease. He has an MBA from Pepperdine University and a BS in Chemical Engineering from UCLA.
