Hoda S. Abdel Magid, MHS, PhD's Bio

Hoda S. Abdel Magid, MHS, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences and in the Spatial Sciences Institute at the University of Southern California. Previously, she served as an instructor and postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health at Stanford University, where she received an NHLBI K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award. She earned her Master of Health Science from Johns Hopkins University and completed her doctoral training at the University of California, Berkeley.

Her research focuses on understanding how space and place affect health. She examines how structural and social determinants of health affect chronic disease behaviors and outcomes. She is currently working to develop a spatial epidemiologic framework for integrating diverse data sources—such as electronic health records, survey data, and geographic information systems (GIS)—to reduce health disparities among socially marginalized populations. Dr. Abdel Magid’s work leverages advanced methodologies in social and spatial epidemiologic methods, causal inference, and machine learning. Her research portfolio includes applications in chronic diseases, aging, and Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD).

Dr. Abdel Magid’s training and research have been supported, in part, by funding from the NIH, the American Heart Association, and other collaborative grants. Her RCMAR project focuses on Estimating the Impact of Spatial Social Polarization on Dementia Disparities, focuses on identifying and addressing disparities in cognitive aging and ADRD.
