Gretchen A. Meier's Bio
Gretchen A. Meier is the digital communications specialist at the USC Schaeffer Center. A member of the external affairs team, she works on interactive data visualizations with Schaeffer Center researchers, in addition to managing the center's website, social media accounts, and analytics.
Prior to joining the Schaeffer Center, Meier held positions in the journalism, digital marketing and student affairs areas. After earning two first place nods from the California Newspapers Publishers Association for Freedom of Information Act and Local Government reporting while with the Los Angeles Times' community newspapers, Meier worked as a digital content consultant for various start-ups in the healthcare space. She remained a part-time staff member at USC within Student Affairs, where she developed leadership training curricula and advised students. From 2016 until joining the Schaeffer Center, Meier worked in the university's central communication division. She produced the department's daily media monitoring report for USC, analyzed coverage opportunities, assisted with crisis communications and monitoring, and helped on social media engagement and strategy.
She holds a bachelor's in both communication and political science from the University of Southern California, and a master's of arts in global politics and political theory from California State University, Los Angeles. Her academic research focuses on the political and economic relationships between Latin American countries and China.
