Michael A. Mussallem's Bio

Michael A. Mussallem has served as chair and chief executive officer of Edwards Lifesciences Corporation, since 2000 when the company spun-off from Baxter International. The company partners with clinicians to develop innovative technologies in the areas of structural heart disease and critical care monitoring that enable them to save and enhance lives. Mussallem previously held a variety of positions with increasing responsibility in engineering, product development and senior management at Baxter, including group vice president of its cardiovascular business from 1994 to 2000 and group vice president of the biopharmaceutical business from 1998 to 2000. From 1996 until 1998, he was chaired Baxter’s Asia board overseeing company operations throughout Asia. Previously, he worked for Union Carbide.

Mussallem is the former board chair of the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed). He serves on the boards and executive committees of AdvaMed, California Healthcare Institute and OCTANe, and is a trustee of the University of California, Irvine Foundation.

He received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and an honorary doctorate from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
